Will the scheduled anime be shown in Japanese with English subs or English dubs?
Also, since Crayon Shinchan has now been released in US, will KIKU show it again? If yes, will it be in Japanese ( including the songs ) and not the horrible English translation and dub of the anime? And will it be shown from the beginning of the series and not after Himawarichan becomes part of the series?

In case anyone ask:
Blue Gender: The Warrior - Weeknights 6pm Kiddy Grade - Weeknights 6:30pm
Tenchi Muyo GXP - Weeknights 10pm Baki the Grappler - Weeknights 10:30pm
I hope it remains Japanese voice-over with English subtitles.
OBTW, when will each anime start airing their premiere episode?
Anyhoo, just some random thoughts... |

| They're dubbed in English. I don't know about the theme songs though. |

Here's my theory... Unlike live Japanese dramas, Japanese anime isn't wrapped in cultural identification. In otherwords, an anime girl with pink hair isn't Japanese, or any other race for that matter. So basically anime can fit in ANY culture. Which is probably why the language used in a given anime series is not an issue with the fans.
Also, most anime fans don't watch anime because they love Japanese the culture. They watch anime for the same reason I like watching Bugs Bunny: they like the themes, they like the characters, they like the special effects, etc. Especially in America, only the really die-hard shows like live dramas are subtitled, more likely to preserve the culture behind the drama. All other non-cultured shows, such as Iron Chef and virtually all anime, are dubbed because these fans are, IMHO, too lazy to be reading subtitles.

Sighs.
I have said it before (well on other boards) and I'll say it again...
Only Americans know how to bastardize imported entertainment.
I was so hoping KIKU wouldn't go down that route.

I just watched the promos again and it says "Coming in September."

Hello, KIKU. We're in September now. It's okay to give us specific dates.
Anyhoo... according to Zap2it.com, the four anime will premiere on September 18, Monday. The above times are correct. Pre-program your DVR/VCR so you won't miss them.

Why when they have always shown anime in Japanese? Is it cheaper than ENG subtitled Japanese dialogue showings? I don't like Americanized anime, mostly! It just doesn't work most of the time and just trashes it.

If it's true that they're going to be dubbed, that seriously disappoints me. Kiddy Grade is one of those animes that I've never gotten around to watching and I'm a serious fanatic. (I own about 450 DVD's or so.) Along with dubbing them into English, translators typically change the dialog, as well. Sometimes they're innocent changes, like someone saying "I want to eat yakitori!" turning into "I want to eat chocolate!" Other times, it affects storyline and character development. And while groink brings up an interesting point about whether or not anime is culturally Japanese, much of the interaction between the characters is very much rooted in Japanese culture. For example, the ways that people talk to each other based on their relationship, age, gender, social status, etc. Many of them are subtle, but they most certainly exist. All of my friends watch a lot of anime and we all refuse to watch it dubbed in English. I think we may be somewhat elitist about it, but everyone's got their idiosyncracies, right? ;-)
It IS interesting to note that there are a LOT of hard core anime fans that prefer it dubbed in English. There have been two anime conventions here in Honolulu so far and several English voice actors came for signing and such. There were screaming, cos-playing people who were SO happy to meet them.
To be honest, I watch KIKU because I love J-dramas and the detective shows. I can watch anime on my own. I wish they'd just show more dramas instead of English dubbed anime. |

Anime and video games are changed, it hurts the story and the artist original interpretation when they edit out scenes, or change charater names, or even the gender of the character to suit some mythical "american audiance".
There are subtlties in the voice and subtext with timing that can totally affect the mood of a scene, you can't just add any voice in there... tone... presentation adds so much more then simply reading and trying to lip sync.
I don't see anime like perfect blue as being anything close to bugs bunny.
If you don't look at the depth of the characters and story line.. and just take the anime for the pretty pictues you are missing out on 70% of the show.
maybe the dubbing is to blame... who knows.
anime is die-hard... it should be respected, if they dumb it down then you get used to the idea that anime is only the visual aspect and are oblivious that there was once a story and hard core emotion pouring out every frame.
I'd still perfer to watch Hayao Miyazaki films in Japanese and read the subtitles and listen to how a line of dialogue is delivered rather than hear the english interpretation. I'm happy that that is an option on the DVD's |

I agree, I mean it's like taking the artist and his/her painting and saying the culture he/she grew up in has no influence over the work.
I'm so trying to type and watch Kiku at the same time... boy it's tough. lol |

It frightens me because I want to get into making my own animated shorts and if someone were to mess with my creation I would be mortified.
When I make a character I have a voice in mind... I don't just pick anyone for the part.
So yeah thats my perspective. :) |

Now that IS interesting. Not to sound boastfully arrogant but I'm very glad and very fortunate I do NOT belong to that group of self-proclaimed hardcore anime fan.

Personally, I wish they could show live-action adventure shows or tokusatsu, in its original non-Americanized version.

Technically, you could sue the violator for messing with your creation without permission.
Even if you do give permission, you should consider adding some ground rules into the binding contract if you wish to preserve quality of your work, and have them sign it.
But what's that got to do with with KIKU airing English-dubbed anime? Maybe it was the station's decision, or the creator's (or a licensing agent's in the US). *Shrugs* I can only speculate that the former is the more plausible suspect.

It's 6 but I don't see Blue Gender. :(
It is Pacific time right?
Edit... never mind I see that it starts on the 18th. :)
Yippie!

But I can't, to be brutally honest. If an imported anime DVD is priced at no more than $20 in Hawaii, I could. But I won't spend $30 unless it's a two-disc set with minimum six episodes.
